Social media is fragmenting, and that's a good thing

I joined Facebook early on. Not with the college kids, who'd already had the whole place to themselves for a while, but I was there several years before the boomers figured out what it was. Back then, there were virtually no algorithms, no targeted ads, and you could figure out how to find things without clicking every drop-down menu on the site.

Then everyone started showing up, including crazy uncles, bullies from high school days, and all the college exes. Soon, we were all faced daily with
