Don't have much to add here, just think it's *funny* that notifications don't go out for people you tag in a blog. Kind of defeats the purpose of it being built on a social network...

Lots of opportunity missed, like being able to embed DeSo posts directly in the blog body. Username mentions aren't even clickable. I'd normally say something like, "this is a good start, they will iterate over time," but history has shown that not to be the case with Diamond.

I also assume it's missing basic publishing platform features like view counts, traffic sources, read times, and the ability for users to subscribe to be notified of new blog posts.

Indeed. Great inputs. @zirkels Team - This is probably good feedback for you too - embed posts and usernames being clickable. I believe you have your own node. Linking to a post on your node - say feed.zirkels.com instead of linking it to Diamondapp/DSW will help write more detailed posts referencing the content on the DESO blockchain. I do believe using the structure that the DiamondApp team has used would be better in terms of storing all data on-chain. I am still not sure how Pearl has created gated content on-chain and if it is on-chain. But, non-gated content can definitely adopt this structure. CC: @tonylewis @dennishlewis

Pearl gated content is off-chain. https://node.deso.org/posts/0d44ef39d64ac3a2864fed4aee4fcf13c32a099e58e6c432aabfb4e1100d3897

Hey Randhir,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts here.I'm pretty positive about the long-form content feature at DeSo, because I am imaging a decentralized Medium.com down the road which will solve many of the problems great writers are facing right now.

Do you mind untangling this topic for me? As I understood, I can upload a blog post via diamond which then appears in the respective section of my profile. Is the functionality intended in a way that the publishing platforms natively retrieve content from there? Or will we have several platforms working parallel, each of them with their own content base? Is there anything I can do as a creator to make this process more straightforward for the audience and the platforms?

I hope you can clarify the matters for me, as I suppose you already deep-dived into this topic.

TIA & Cheers,
Tom

Right now, if you post on Diamond, it does go to the blockchain - the post gets posted as a regular post - Title + Extract. The detailed blog with formatting, images, fonts, styling, etc also get associated with the same post as ExtraData in a format called Quill. There is no immediate solution proposed by Diamond Team for gating content which is a key feature IMHO. If you post a blog on Zirkels, there are two options: 1) FREE Plan: Blog Title+Extract gets posted on-chain. Detailed Blog is on Zirkels internal servers only 2) PAID Plan: You have an option to choose whether to post entire content or not. I had it as No. But, I will probably change it soon. I am assuming that for Gated Content, the data will still reside on Zirkels servers. If you post on Cuprite, the data goes to the blockchain if it is FREE for all and does not go to the blockchain if it is gated content. Net net, I know that Zirkels is looking to adopt the Diamond approach so that posting on there does get added to your blogs section as a post (at least for ungated content). This is an evolving situation and my comment may not be relevant in a few days. So, I'll tag the main characters to let them correct anything I said and/or add. Alright, thank you so much for your comprehensive answer! My takeaway from here is that gating/pay-walling the written content is an issue as long as I don't use platforms with the power to store off-chain. Would be interesting to know if additional monetization options emerge in the future, like subscriptions or exclusive content for CC-Hodlers.

@zirkels has those options and with the paid plan - you should be good. Do check it out. And if you do sign up, use my referral link: one more monetization option. ;-) zirkels.com/?ref=Randhir
