Amazing that you posted this today, considering that I just quit my comfortable Management Consulting job 2 DAYS AGO to pursue an entrepreneurial opportunity

Many told me I'm crazy, but it's agony to not be where you know you should be!

Wow big congrats man! You're not crazy at all, and I'm sure it's going to be an amazing experience. I know it's the corniest thing ever, but you really can't go wrong with following your heart.

Great post, Nader! In the picture below is the MBA style (oversimplified) summary. ๐Ÿ˜

BTW, I think your insights are analog to competition at work (and to competition between companies too). During my former work at a very large company, I recognized strong competition for promotions. People were fiercely fighting for them, and they were spending significant time (also private time outside of work) on making progress with their promotions.

I was ambitious too and joined the competition. After some time though, I realized that each additional unit of time that I spent on competing yielded diminishing returns on my promotion goal (and it lowered my quality of life too). At the same time, I had to spend more and more time on obtaining a promotion because competition was stiffing. I asked myself: Why am I competing? It didn't feel like I was doing it for myself, and I felt that I was competing on a set of rules that didn't suit me.

That's when I realized competing for the promotion wasn't worth it for me. I changed my course so that I completed my work within the regular time, but I didn't invest any of my outside work time on competition anymore.

Instead, I used the freed-up time to expand my horizon and search for something new, where there wasn't much competition yet. My passion for tech led me to crypto. I used my free time outside of work to do my due diligence on the tech and promising projects.

That was in Spring 2018, and the rest is history. I invested in the right projects at incredibly low prices and was well positioned for the coming bull run.

Today, I am not only much wealthier than my former colleagues, I could also pay for my grad-school degree without going into debt. I furthermore gained financial freedom to pursue my own business idea.

Some people might say that I just didn't have the absolute will to make my promotion happen. I'd say that I possess good self-reflection skills, which help me understand when it makes sense to compete and when it doesn't.

My lesson learned: When you choose to compete, always ask yourself if you are playing your own game or someone else's game. If it is your game, compete. If it isn't yours, don't compete and search for something new.

Cool story, and I love the illustration... But, can you elaborate on the difference between "perfect fit" and "fight"? Thanks ๐Ÿ•‰๏ธโ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿซ‚๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

Thank you for the encouraging feedback! Sure, here you go. First, I suggest to look at what these two scenarios have in common: you are truly happy with your job situation --> low incentive to change something. Next, let's look at the differences: In the "Perfect Fit" scenario, you are highly confident that you'll receive benefits from staying with the company such as a promotion. This is basically the best possible scenario. Since you are so confident about receiving the benefits, you don't really need to do more than you are already doing. In the "Fight" scenario, you have low confidence about receiving the benefits from waiting (staying with the company). You could also say there is high uncertainty about receiving the benefits. But since you like your job so much, and you don't want to be somewhere else, it is still worth staying and fighting for your benefits. For this, you would most likely need to increase your efforts and fight.

If you like it, stay. If you don't like it, leave. The only thing that's a mistake is staying if you don't like it :)

Luv your level of wisdom built into thought, Taner... shame we can't still enjoy that level of intellect in your #video works of dayz gone by too. ~ I bought & paid for some #videowork minted into #NFTs that are a blank slate now also. I along with near every single one of #WeTheSheeple OGs understand what the #CrickCoreTeam does or doesn't do... ~ Thank you for your efforts to restore the disparaged NFTs to continue the display of what we had all believed would be displayed forever secured in this blockchain.

Very good article. I also practiced something similar in the past (for example quitting University 6 months before graduating), but I forgot about it and get lost. I used it only for easier decisions. But this reminded me to double down on it and get a nice โ€œframeworkโ€ around it.

I really saw myself time trapping in this article. One of my traps was waiting to get vested in retirement, the current one is waiting for my kids to graduate college. I can only start a new career once my kids are out of college. Otherwise I won't have enough money.
