Holy City of Phrygia; HIERAPOLIS

Located in the middle of Hierapolis, it's an enormous and very well-preserved Roman theater with a capacity of 8500-10000 spectator and 91 meters in height. The construction was started in 62 AD after the earthquake of 60 AD and finally completed in the Severus Era in 206 AD. In Emperor Severus period the cavea and the stage of the theatre were restored by using the remains of another old theatre built earlier in the north of the city. The excavations in Hierapolis started in 1957 and the theatre was found in 1974.
